Roatan is really gaining momentum in its growth. The sleepily little undeveloped island is transforming right before our eyes. I am being generous when I say the island is < 10% developed as not to steer anyone wrong, however, the developed areas are exploding and beginning to spread out. The two vehicles you see the most these days are taxis and cement trucks. The mall complex being built in the French Harbor (15 min. east from the airport) is being completed with cement trucks going in and out like waves. The mall will bring in the islands first big chain restaurant Applebee's. The island's first golf course has finally revealed its course layout
(the fairways have been cut and they are putting beginning to build the sand traps) and plans. The big ceremony, which was last week, was a big production. The golf club's name is the Black Pearl. Club Memberships are not yet for sale. Condos, garden view homes, and estate homes are to be offered after the golf course is completed. There are lots available outside of the golf course community on the mountain sides that allow for golf course views. There is also a GREAT potential for someone to come and open a golf store by the entrance of the golf course community. If you have ever wanted to both retire from your 9-5 job and open a golf shop you have found it. Someone will eventually jump on it, but as of right now the opportunity is wide open. Royal Caribbean’s port is being transformed into a grand plaza. Carnival’s port plans are to be substantially larger than Royal Caribbean’s port plaza. Besides golf courses and malls we have many other smaller construction projects finishing and starting up. We now have a gas station just outside of the West End. There is also a nice little development in the West End that is offering 800 sq. ft. condos with a view for $199,000. The sleepy West side of Flower’s Bay has a new dive shop where you can dive from a boat or step outside of their doorstep for a shore dive.
