After people have purchased their home in paradise, the question arrives, "How do I get my belongings to Roatan"? There are several ways to move your belongings to Roatan. The first option is to simply send your belongings to one of the two shipping companies serving Roatan, Hyde Shipping and Dip Shipping. Hyde shipping goes directly to Roatan, where as Dip Shipping goes through the Port of Cortez. I recommend Hyde Shipping and I will share the contact and phone number with you shortly.
If you send your belongings to the shipping company they will combine your belongings with others. The cost for this is about $3.02 per cubic foot. You can use Fed-ex or UPS to send your belongings to the shipping company. UPS and Fed-ex will charge by the pound, as well, as size. The shipping companies going to Roatan only charge by size. The second option is to rent a container. There are a few different sizes of containers that you can purchase. A 40 foot container can actually carry two cars to the island. A 40 ft. container will cost you several thousand dollars to rent. The container can be brought to most locations (not residential) and left there at your convenience to fill. If you have a car though then you will need to have the container placed in a location where you can drive the car into the container. The third option is to purchase a container and send the container to the shipping company. The cost of the container will definitely vary, depending on normal supply and demand numbers. Once the container or your belongings arrive to Honduras, the first port of call will be where the customs or duties will be paid. It is necessary that you have an invoice for every single item that you bring over. There will be a duty or tax on your items and the tax is usually a percentage of the invoice.
