Just when we thought it was safe to wander the beach again....in comes a deluge of athletes, spectators, vendors, sponsors, media and even 2 Top REALTORS from Virginia Beach!! Alan Thompson and his adorable wife, Tammy, owner of the largest RE/MAX office in the world! came down to check out this years race in West Bay! More than 100 participants swam, biked and ran the sanctioned event under bright sunny skies over the weekend here on the Island.
The Mayan Princess Beach Resort hosted the Bay Islands International Triathlon on Saturday March 25th. Best time was just under 2 hours by Nicholas Becker of France.
Rounding out the event, which included individual and team participation, was Roatan Bruce and his lively commentary as the day unfolded. Although this is the 4th annual event, it was my first time to witness the event live. I've been off the Island in past years and have sadly missed the race. Alan, who is an avid cyclist himself, pointed out to me that some of the pro athlete's bikes are worth more than my car!! 
A few scrapes, tears and spills occured, but all in all a wonderfully organized event. Hats off to triathlon.com for a job well done... and look out next year... rumor has it Alan and I will be competing in the event next year.... I've certainly got my work cut out for me...
