While it's not a tropical island, but more of that "Central America" feel, La Ceiba offers shopping, hotels, retaurants and all-inclusive beach resorts. Now, homes, villas and condos are being constructed and offered to baby boomers wishing to retire in paradise, but perhaps on a more meager budget.
The beauty of the surrounding rainforest compliments La Ceiba and offers some great adventures in trekking and hiking. Tour companies offer 1/2 day, full day and overnight packages into the jungles and, since I've done a day package, I can truly say...they are well organized and very worthwhile.
