Honduras changes cellular numbers today

Honduras has new numbers for Cellular phones!

Just the Celular numbers will change Starting TODAY, Feb. 25th.

All the celular phones in Honduras will go to 8 digits starting today. Please make the changes to stay in touch with your contacts in Honduras.

Just add a 9 to the numbers that start with 9 and 8.
And, add a 3 to the numbers that start with 3

New freeport law framework made public

LAW OF A FREE TOURIST ZONE IN THE
DEPARTMENT OF BAY ISLANDS

INTRODUCTION
AIM AND CREATION OF A FREE TOURIST ZONE

CHAPTER I
OBJECT AND DEFINITIONS

ARTICLE 1: OBJECT: The object of this law is to create the legal framework that is necessary for the establishment and operation of a Customs, Tax and Territorial Ordering Regime that will operate in all territory comprised in the Department of Bay Islands, except for the Archipelago of Cayos Cochinos. For its execution, this Special Regime will adopt the name of Free Tourist Zone of Bay Islands or ZOLITUR (its acronym in Spanish).

Roatan realtors association joins NAR

   

During our monthly REALTOR's Association meeting it was decided that we need to join the National Association of REALTORS (NAR) in the USA.  This will allow us to use the REALTOR logo on our advertising amoung other benefits.  In addition, we discussed the ongoing problems with RECO, Roatan's electric company which has been taken over by the Government of Honduras.  The reason for this has been the poor management of the company to date resulting in Island wide power outages, equipment left in disrepair, and loss of essential services for Roatan.

Mexico hardens grip on developers

    On February 1st 2007 the Mexican Government published in the Federal Official Gazette an amendment to the General Wildlife Law. The amendment's main feature is the inclusion of Article 60-Ter, that imposes restrictions over any activity that may affect mangroves or ecosystems where these may be found.  The Article in question reads as follows:

"Article 60 TER.- The removal, filling, transplant, cutting or any other activity that may affect the integrity of the hydrological flow of the mangrove, its ecosystem and zone of influence; its natural productivity, the natural capacity of the ecosystem for tourism products; nesting, reproductive, refuge, feeding and growth zones; the interaction between the mangrove, rivers, the dune, the adjacent marine zone and corals, or which may provoke changes in the characteristics and ecological services is prohibited.

A new beginning for the bay islands

    When Shelley and I landed here back in 1997, we saw an Island, pure, gentle and wondered why more people hadn't discovered this pristine paradise.  Back then, there were about 30,000 inhabitants on Roatan and we had to talk a big talk to convince investors to consider this 3rd world Island...... we had no telephone, no cell phones, no paved roads, no Hummers, (we brought the first Jeep) .... just great people and cheap land.  That was then.....

    January 30th, 2007 marks a major turning point for this Island, and the Bay Islands as a whole.  That was the day that the new "Free Port" bill became law.  It's official....we are a Freeport!
