During our monthly REALTOR's Association meeting it was decided that we need to join the National Association of REALTORS (NAR) in the USA. This will allow us to use the REALTOR logo on our advertising amoung other benefits. In addition, we discussed the ongoing problems with RECO, Roatan's electric company which has been taken over by the Government of Honduras. The reason for this has been the poor management of the company to date resulting in Island wide power outages, equipment left in disrepair, and loss of essential services for Roatan.
The central government hopes to sell off this utility within a few months, so any interested parties should begin their investigations as to the feasiblity of doing so. The meeting also was the first of the newly elected board members for the RRA. Being a founding member of the RRA, I've taken a back seat this past year so I could spend more time with the family and work on our Costa Tesoro project.
MLS tours, ethics boards, and local municipal liasons were also on today's agenda. This year there are more agencies and more volunteers for the different jobs in the Association. That's great news and makes it easier for some of us veterens to spend more quality time away from work. More and more Islanders....natives to Roatan....are stepping forward and joining the real estate profession. This too is good news.
Our MLS magazine just came out last week and we're happy to say is bigger, brighter and contrains more listings in full color than ever before! Published 3 times per year, the MLS Guide is distributed throughout Honduras and is a popular souvenir for many a visitor dreaming of their own paradise.
In the 9 years Shelley and I have been here, we've seen a lot of changes. In the past year, we've seen the biggest changes, as the Island is fast tracking as a Caribbean destination. Now let's just see how the FREEPORT status, official January 30th, will effect our growth. If the experts are right, we're in for a fast ride. Helmets anyone?
