Recently, while booking some travel for some clients, I found it's getting harder and harder each year to book at Christmas time. In the past, you could usually find great rooms on West Bay and in West End, right up until October.... but each year more and more people are coming to Roatan.... and coming back again. If you wish to book for New Years...time is running out! Most places in West Bay are already full!!! In August!!
Most of this can be attributed to the increased advertising by us REALTORS, recent TV and media coverage of our beautiful Islands, double the Cruise ship traffic than last year, and more and more airlines looking for different destinations and holiday packages.... I was reading Honduras This Week and they talked about the air travel to Roatan.... Speaking of air travel, this year may be known as the year of open skies in Honduras: a number of new airlines will be serving Honduras, bringing increased competition and subsequent lower fares. Spirit Air, a low-cost upstart from the U.S. will be flying to Fort Lauderdale three times per week.
Fares are “bargain basement” cheap! For info: www.spiritair.com. Aeromexico is now making a San Pedro Sula – Mexico City route six times per week; info at: www.aeromexico.com . Aero Caribbean is flying Havana – Managua – Tegucigalpa once per week; info at: www.aero-caribbean.com. Finally, Blue Panorama is flying once per week from Roatan – Rome; info at: www.blue-panorama.com. Add Delta to the mix, which started flights to Atlanta a few months ago and, for the first time, the concept of competitive fares is a reality in Honduras. Historically, Honduras has been woefully under-served by just three major carriers; TACA, Continental and American, who have all charged similar fares. With new players in the mix, fares will inevitably drop as competition heats up. Spirit Air, for example, offers bargain round trip tickets starting at $252, with taxes.

The flight from Roatan to Rome will produce 11,000 tourists per year and by the end of 2007, the new airlines will bring in some 25,000 additional tourists. And that is JUST the beginning!!!
