Wednesday night, August, 29th, many homes burned to the ground in a terrible fire in Roatan's West End Village. The small peninsula was home to The Lighthouse Restaurant and many wooden homes along its bank. The fire lashed through the structures rapidly as home owners fled for safety. There were no deaths but everyone lost all they had in the world. Lighthouse Restaurant, one of the most famous on Roatan, was completely burned to the ground along with other homes. Firefighters were able to contain the fire from spreading and must be commended for their valiant efforts!
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families and children involved. Donations will to the Patranodo (district manager) for West End to purchase the specific needs of the families .Sunday is a big gathering at Lands End. All proceeds from food and drinks will go to the fire victims. Please email [email protected] for more information on where you can donate. Tourists to Roatan are welcome to participate in the local fundraising activities.
