Yesterday at the municipal hall a meeting was called by the authorities to discuss solutions to recent complaints of loud music and partying late nights in West Bay. The offending party seemed to be the Henry Morgan all-inclusive resort which caters mainly to charter flights from Italy and Canada. Instead of pointing fingers, the meeting, attended by myself as a business/resort owner in West Bay, suggested solutions so that businesses could still offer the level of service expected by their clientele, while respecting the rights of neighboring properties and residents.
In attendance were resorts and business owners from up and down West Bay. The Henry Morgan was represented as well by the owner, Piero de Batiste. Many great comments came forward and all were in agreement with the noise pollution mandates offered by City Hall...
Agreed to by all was that businesses would be closed by midnight Sunday to Thursday, while keeping music levels to an acceptable level at all times. Friday and Saturday would be "party" or "fiesta" nights only with applicable businesses allowed to stay open until 2:00 am these nights provided they "dimmed" the music post midnight.
Discussion also brought up the water taxis zooming around West Bay and the fact that many websites tote West Bay Beach as "tranquil", "quiets", "unspoiled", etc. which is not really the truth. Perhaps if clients booking rooms were given more accurate information before coming, they would be less offended by the music during the day, and some evenings coming from the various resorts along the beach. West Bay is growing but still offers a far less commercial atmosphere than you'd find at comparable Islands...
