For reasons we believe are noble, Honduran President Mel Zelaya has decreed that all motorists limit the amount of driving they do each week. Line ups at the Government agencies are long this
week as it was just announced that all cars must have a sticker in the window by tomorrow stating which day of the week they won't be driven. In other words, all car owners must choose which day of the week not to drive. Fines up to $30 US will be handed out to all offenders. Taxis, work trucks and buses are exempt from the new law.
There is much speculation surrounding this but most believe it is a way the Government of Honduras can save up to 20% from the subsidies they currently pay towards lower fuel costs for the Country. Others believe Honduras is starting to do their part in the war against pollution. Either way, if you own 2 cars, you're probably ok as you can choose a different day for each car. Mexico has been doing this for decades, I'm told. I guess I'll have to choose a day NOT to show property.... that's a great excuse to go fishing.... Amen!
