Yesterday, amid the close scrutiny of thousands of International observers, Hondurans flocked to the polls to choose their next President.. and that man is Pepe Lobo!! With more than 56% of the popular vote, compared to 36% for Liberal rival, Elvin Santos, it is clear that Hondurans sent a message that they want CHANGE!!
At a press conference last night, election officials said that 61% of eligible voters turned out to exercise their right! That's up from previous elections and shows that the people of this country are standing up to make a difference.
Officially taking office on the 27th of January, 2010, the new Government has it's work cut out for itself, taking on the International community to recognize their legitimacy. The USA has already stated that they will do so... hopefully other countries will follow suit.
Once again, it's been a great day for Democracy!!
