With all the airlines cutting back their direct flights to Roatan for the next couple of months, travelers don't have the luxury of being able to fly mid-week to the Bay Islands right now. Saturday to Saturday stays are more common this time of year, but there ARE some advantages….
With Easter Week behind us, the droves of tourists flocking the beaches, attractions and restaurants has all but dried up for the next couple of months. Hotel occupancy rates will remain low as travelers stay closer to home for the time being. Direct flights to Roatan from Houston, Atlanta and other destinations also slow during May and June. It's a GREAT TIME to visit the islands and see the splendor, discover paradise and chill with the locals… minus the crowds.

Looking out over the horizon this morning I see it… the Purple Haze of Roatan!! But why? What is this strange looking atmospheric condition that looks more like a late sunset.. first thing in the morning?????
Whether you're young or old, the entertainment available at Roatan's many venues is certain to entertain you! From "one-man-Caribbean-bands" to 5 piece rock n'roll groups belting out the classics, our island is morphing into a lot more than hanging out at Sundowners on a bar stool listening to the guy next to you complain about the sand flies while he sways back and forth to the canned music playing over the computer speakers… LIVE BANDS are becoming the rage at many restaurants and bars here, particularly in the West End area…. with something for every age….
Believe it or not… there's a fruit attached to the precious Cashew nut.. and locals here on Roatan know just how to process these expensive kernels…. but beware!! You may just get burned!!
Of the many new businesses opening up on Roatan, few are destined for success from the get-go. Most are ill-managed, poorly located or under funded and look more like a fish on the dock flopping around gasping for air during the 2-3 months they are open, before they run out of money and close the doors for good. Herby's Sports Bar and Grill, on the other hand, has come out of the gate running… and if owner Herb Morecci keeps the momentum going, will set the new standard of professionalism in the Bay Islands….
As the temperatures begin to rise in the Bay Islands, it's easy to stay out too long.. if even for a brief time. And without proper protection… you'll be a crispy critter in no time! Watch this and avoid eye problems in the bright sunshine...
Certainly this time of year, more than any other… you need to be aware of what could be in the water next to you. April usually brings in jellyfish to Roatan's beaches… and although they produce a nasty sting, there are things you can do to avoid the burn...
After months behind brown paper and blue construction tarps… Roatan is the first to get a WAL-MART in all Honduras!! Opening today and drawing crowds from across the island, including this shopper -- I had to take a look and show you!! It's incredible and will certainly make a big splash here!! Check it out...
