Since this IS Honduras… and things seldom go as planned here… I thought I'd walk you through the process of paying your property taxes here in the islands…. it's rather simple, but can be time consuming, and may just involve a few trips to the municipality.
Yeeee HAWWW! Now you can fly to Roatan direct from Houston, Texas more days during the week. Continental just added more flights!! Check this out….
Once in a while you have to get off the Rock!!.. and a great way to do that is by ferry (or the Yacht, as the locals call it). This inexpensive scenic voyage is about an hour and a half and very comfortable… until the ride home and everyone starts puking! The seas get rougher in the afternoon and you need a strong stomach, sea legs and a Gravol… or else!
For about $6 you can buy a Hummingbird feeder at the Ace Hardware in French Harbour… add a mixture of sugar and water (skip the food coloring--it's not healthy for them anyways), and nail it up somewhere outside where you can enjoy the show!! The symphony of lightning-fast wing flutter; the amazing accuracy of direction change in mid flight and the aggressive behaviors towards each other provide a spectacle like no other. And, on Roatan, there are dozens of varieties of Hummingbirds… but they are not the ONLY flying creatures to enjoy the sugar fix...
God Bless the islands mon!!! Great to have a bit of showers today… and well needed. Yellow plants do not look so good…. but after today, and perhaps the next few days….we'll see them happy and green once again!!
Once you're here in the islands, you'll soon be aware of all sorts of ants.. in all colors and sizes…. they are just part of the topography here in Roatan!! But you can deal with them without giving up… and today, I'll share with you my secrets….
Whether you live here or are just visiting, you'll want to try your hand at fishing!! Just being out on the water on a warm day is enough… but then add a 45-minute-long battle with a fighting 180 pound giant… and your day just can't get any better! Fishing charters are common place here and right now is a great time to book yours!! Or, you can just negotiate with one of the guys pulled up on the beach for a half or full day of fun! But be careful who you choose….
June 1st marked the official start of this year's hurricane season and we're told once again it's going to be a doozy! Typically, Roatan gets a direct hit about once every 24 years or so and the last one was Mitch in 1998… so hopefully, we're not due for a few more years yet…. but what if? Is there insurance available for hurricanes?
