Well.. it's here again.. or should I say "hear" again... cause the sites and SOUNDS of Semana Sante 2012 are once again AMAZING!! If you've experienced it.. you'll know what I'm talking about... if you haven't... watch this!
The great thing about Roatan is that it's not been "discovered" like so many of the other touristy Caribbean islands. It's still relatively inexpensive here to buy property, vacation and live. I mean, where else in the tropics can you go out and have a nice evening, complete with dinner and drinks, for twenty bucks? Check out Roatan's West End... tons of food establishments, tiki bars and more!!
This time of year is one of my favs... and the sunsets are spectacular!! The rains have almost stopped for the season... and the sun is out! Take a look at this from West Bay Beach...
I got to tell you.... living on Roatan is far from boring.... mundane or anything you may believe stuck on a big rock in the middle of the ocean is cracked up to be. Between the thousands of ever-changing tourists -- to the amazing, quirky misfit residents who call Roatan home, there is always something to look at, admire, laugh to, buy, repair, build and stare at here! Here's a few of my memories from this past year... enjoy!

If you're visiting Roatan you MUST stop for dinner at Creole's Rotisserie Chicken in West End!! Dola and the staff serve up GREAT VALUE and wonderful desserts, aside from the island's finest roasted chicken at the best prices!! But make sure you leave room for dessert!
Whether you're young or old, the entertainment available at Roatan's many venues is certain to entertain you! From "one-man-Caribbean-bands" to 5 piece rock n'roll groups belting out the classics, our island is morphing into a lot more than hanging out at Sundowners on a bar stool listening to the guy next to you complain about the sand flies while he sways back and forth to the canned music playing over the computer speakers… LIVE BANDS are becoming the rage at many restaurants and bars here, particularly in the West End area…. with something for every age….
As the amber sun slowly melts into the horizon each day here on Roatan, I'm reminded to beware of the dreaded Anopheles mosquito that comes out on the Islands at this time of day. Although there really aren't a lot of the little guys… you still need to take precautions to prevent being infected with the malaria virus… this mosquito is the only one that carries the virus… and they ONLY come out at dusk...
It's always amazing how many Irishmen (and women) come out and show their colors on this festive day…. and Roatan is no exception! Tonight, we stumbled (in good Irish form) down the beach to Fosters, Mayan Princess and Bananarama Dive Resort… where the Irish cheer overflowed...
From time to time I like to see what's new on the island and Roatan seems to have a never ending supply of entrepreneurs trying their hand at the hospitality business. Restaurants, clubs and tourist attractions seem to be popping up every week almost!! Today, I check out one of West End's newest and nicest evening jaunts! Besos (which means Kiss in Spanish) promised to be different.. and they sure are….

Happy Canada Day! I've heard that about 1M times today!! Oh, and shaken more hands than Obama during his hypnotizing of the American public…I mean, during his election campaign. And Canadians living on Roatan really know how to celebrate! Local watering hole, Sundowners in West End hosted an all-out pig roasting, sailboat trying, beer swiggin good time for July1st here today… and digging up the pig was just the beginning of it...
Among the dozens of mediocre restaurants lining the streets of West End town, there are a few standouts that are sure to bring pleasure to the senses, and the pocketbook! The Argentinian Grill has been around for more than 7 years now and continues to be one of the top eateries on all of Roatan! Tonight, we journey to West End with clients John and Lizeth Fowler from Kentucky! See how we rate tonights performance...
There are many special individuals on the island of Roatan who's "mission", "ministry" or who's heart is dedicated to helping others. They give freely of their time, money and abilities to assist the less fortunate here in the isles. One such person is Valerie Nelson - a Canadian with a mission! Learn more about the difference Valerie is making in hundreds of children's lives… starting with Crab Racing!
Hawaii and Polynesia have nothing on us! Nope! We have pineapple, monkeys, macaws… AND fire dancers! Check out Paul's show, live on the beach at Bananarama Resort in West Bay! Every Sunday… it's AWESOME!
Good Friday is the anniversary of Jesus Christ's crucifixion and is remembered by many Christians in different ways. Although a somewhat solemn occasion, it is also a day of celebration… for many, it's the day our Savior gave his life for all of us, so that we could experience Salvation!
For those on the beach today in the sweltering 96º heat, today was a festive day of music, dancing and drinking… See what our cameras captured today…
As most tourist destinations have to offer, Roatan boasts dozens, if not hundreds of local restaurants, bars and snack bars geared more to the evening crowd after the sun sets into the Caribbean! French, Italian, American, Spanish and Island cuisines are available here on the Island and when it comes to freshness, Roatan's seafood is second to none! Dining out is a favorite pastime here. Sharing a meal with friends is always enjoyable and a great place to swap stories of the past weeks.
