Near the end of our rainy season and all of a sudden we get nailed with more rain in 3 days than we've had in 3 months!!!! WOW! Talk about a monsoon, deluge or whatever you call it… actually, I saw a guy with a beard start construction on a large boat… had a lot of animals in his yard too!
Did I say football? I meant watermelon… that's how my head felt since waking. I hate being sick in the Tropics…. there's so much to do and I don' t have the energy….. so it's off to the market to find some cold/flu medicine/coverup and some vitamins. Let's see what I can find dis a tiny island...
While you're away from home, you may want to send and receive emails, talk on Skype with friends and family back home, or otherwise surf the net for Roatan attractions or car rentals. Now you can.. whether you're here for a week… or for the rest of your life!!
Instead of the usual resort/hotel or B&B, many travelers are opting for a more relaxed, private experience here on Roatan. Perhaps you're looking at buying or relocating here and you'd like to see what it'd be like to "live" here…. well Vacation Rentals are the way to go then.. but BE CAREFUL you don't get trapped where you don't want to be! Know the location and do your homework before clicking "Pay Now". Those white sandy beaches pictured on the website may be a LOOOOONG way from your accommodations.
Football is a favorite pastime in Latin America… it's fun, fast and great exercise! Whether you're here visiting or you plan to live here… you can always find a scrimmage going on. At the beach, the playground and NOW… at at least 2 newly built "arena" facilities here on Roatan!!
Unlike the nutrient-depleted soils of the USA, Honduras' farms enjoy year round growing seasons, high nutrient rich, dark dirt and an abundance of GIGANTIC crops… From pineapples to bananas, potatoes to carrots… organics just taste better here in Roatan, and have far more vitamins and minerals than similar foods back home. Let's face it!! You can just be a LOT HEALTHIER living in Honduras!!
Well, yesterday it hit once again… just in time for the weekend. Another norther (which dumped snow in the USA) has come, but this one is rather weak compared to the last few. Intermittent rain showers, grey (or gray) skies and a little wave action on the shores of Roatan. These cooler temps are welcome after the past 3 weeks of hot sun… and by Monday we'll be back to clear blue...
Let's face it.. we're in our rainy season and it's supposed to be raining!! Grey skies and liquid sunshine are the norm this time of year… so what's up with that ball of fire in the sky? Oh, and take a look at our BuyRoatan.com Gear first hand here...
Since we don't have freezing temperatures to kill certain types of bacteria… these little organisms thrive on the heat, moisture and salt water of the tropics… but BEWARE… what you don't know could be deadly! My daughter, Falyn was recently visiting and learned the hard way about cuts and how they MUST be treated… promptly!
Rated one of the Top Ten beaches on the planet by more than one ex-patriot rag, Roatan's West Bay is home to high end resorts, dive shops and sun worshipers. Today, I take one last stroll through the Christmas crowds to show you what you're missing…. there's always next year..right?
Staying in touch with family and friends while on a vacation can be rewarding… and many peeps ask me whether their phone from home can be used to "call home". Here's the skinny… as well as a look at West Bay Beach during Christmas 2010...
On this Christmas Eve, let us consider the greatest gift of all: the gift of eternal life. And let us give thanks for the tremendous sacrifice of love. Jesus came that we might have life, and then He laid down His own life for us. The Peace Child was sacrificed that we may have peace with God. What could possibly make Christmas merrier? MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! Have a safe and phenomenal holiday!!!
More times than I'd care to admit, vehicles require servicing here in the Tropics… It's almost like the harsh elements are far worse on your car's health here than anywhere else I've been on the planet. And when you need them fixed, serviced or put back into working order.. there's no better place than the small backyard mechanics that Honduras is famous for...
As 2010 winds down, I encourage those of you who are looking at property in the Bay Islands to watch this and seriously consider your investment plans… there's some great deals that you won't want to miss….
Help make this year the very Merriest yet for Roatan's kids!! If you're coming down for the holidays to the Bay Islands, here's a simple way you can put a smile on the face AND in the heart of some very special children that need your love...

For Adam Hunt… scrap metal, old roofing and discarded 55 gallon drums are a thing of beauty… well, almost. You see, Adam set up shop on Roatan a couple years ago and has been turning everyday garbage into artwork… cutting, welding, painting his way into the living rooms, hallways and kitchen counters of many a tourist from around the world! Not only is he supporting himself and his family here, but many other families as well who he's teaching his Rusty Fish craft to...
Just like back home where you live… go a few miles off the beaten track and you'll find individuals and families barely scraping by with very, very little. Roatan is no different. There are some very poor people living here and they can always use a helping hand! Enter "CEPUDO and Food for the Poor"-- an NGO based out of San Pedro Sula which receives donations of all sorts… and distributes them to Honduras' less fortunate. Our Bible Study group on Roatan was blessed with a truck load of goods from CEPUDO and last Saturday we distributed much needed food and clothing to about 100 families in need. If you'd like to be a part of this, contact me by email [email protected] or bring something to donate down with you on your next visit.

I met Lee Lichlyter through facebook over a year ago on one of the P90X groups and since then we've been sharing comments and occasions over the social media network. And today, as others like him, he brought his family to Roatan via the Carnival Triumph and I got to meet one of the people I've admired only via cyberspace until now. Lee is a CEO of a technology co. and an all-around great Dad and guy! See what he has to say about our island...
In any third world country there seems to be no end to the need for assistance whether that be financial or through body counts. Roatan, being in Honduras, is on the radar screens of many NGO's who continually bring down food, clothing, medicines and other aid to the poor and needy. Communities and Churches have a constant calling for volunteers to help organize, teach, repair or lead in their respective areas. Today, we saddle up and offer some much needed assistance to one particular Church in French Harbour, lending our time and resources...
For anyone who owns a boat or has visited Roatan by sea, you'll understand what I mean when I say the North shore is very unpredictable and unsafe to leave a boat. The reason is that storms can come up during the night unexpected and anyone moored on that side of the island could see their rig swamped, or lost. Well, now there is a safe harbour with full service Marina in Sandy Bay that offers boaters that protection and security they were wishing for…
For more than 60 years, Melvin Bodden has been creating art from things he finds washed up on Roatan's shores… sculpting driftwood into colorful masterpieces, painting canvas with an eye on the Lord at all times, and enjoying life to the absolute fullest! If you've travelled the Sandy Bay road to West End from Coxen Hole, no doubt you've caught a glimpse of Melvin on the side of the road chiseling away at his latest creation. Today, I stopped to talk to my old friend and get his take on life...
Roatan has so much to offer both tourists, investors and re-locators alike!! From great beaches with fine white sand, to awesome seafood restaurants, to fun activities like snorkeling and diving!! Here are some of my favorite sights and sounds of the island mon!!
From time to time I like to see what's new on the island and Roatan seems to have a never ending supply of entrepreneurs trying their hand at the hospitality business. Restaurants, clubs and tourist attractions seem to be popping up every week almost!! Today, I check out one of West End's newest and nicest evening jaunts! Besos (which means Kiss in Spanish) promised to be different.. and they sure are….
If it has a motor, suction, wires or cables… these guys can fix it!! From vacuums to wiper motors, blenders to weed-eaters I've had just about everything you can imagine break down here… and there's usually a guy somewhere on the island that can put it right!… ya just gotta ask around!
Suntanning, walking or swimming on Roatan beaches makes you fair game for the beach vendors here. Everything from necklaces, t-shirts, hammocks and sunglasses can be purchased without ever separating yourself from that Margarita! And especially if you're going to be swimming with them.. you'll want to buy some "disposable" cheap sunglasses….
Oh sure, we may not have blistering fast internet, taxis who can drive properly, grocery stores who maintain stocked shelves… but we DO have great mobile phone coverage… even roaming! Today, I explain a bit about what's available now in Honduras...
